Oelo vs Gemstone vs Trimlight: A Practical Feature Comparison

Oelo, Gemstone and Trimlight all make permanent roofline lighting: LED lights mounted along the edge of the roof that stay up all year and change color from a controller or app. They are more alike than different, so the useful comparison is in the details: how the system looks in daylight, how it fits your roofline, how you control it, who installs it, and what the written warranty actually covers.

The details below come from each manufacturer's own website as reviewed on October 29, 2026. Product lines and warranty terms change, so confirm the current terms in writing before you buy.

At a Glance

An hour rating describes how long the LEDs are designed to run under test conditions. It is not a promise of how many years a particular system will last. Real-world life depends on daily use, weather and the quality of the installation.

Oelo

Oelo, LLC calls its product a permanent structural lighting system. Its published warranty covers the LEDs, the controller and the lens, which is the clear cover over each light. Oelo currently rates its lights for 100,000 hours.

Warranty, as published by Oelo:

• For systems installed on or after January 1, 2024: 7 years for installs by Authorized, Preferred and Platinum Dealers, and 5 years for contractor and customer DIY installs. Systems installed before that date carry 5 years.
• The first year is full coverage: Oelo may repair or replace products it determines are defective, including the labor directly required. It does not cover related work such as soffit, metalwork or flashing.
• After the first year, coverage is component-only for the rest of the term. Parts are covered for defects such as a failed LED, a controller failure or a clouded or yellowed lens, but labor is not included.
• The warranty belongs to the property owner, not the installer. It can be transferred once, if the new owner contacts Oelo within 60 days of the sale. Claims must be made within 30 days of finding the problem.

Gemstone Lights

Gemstone uses a permanent track along the roofline. According to Gemstone, the track is custom-fit with its own machines, comes in multiple profiles for different soffit and fascia construction, and can be color-matched from more than 150 soffit and fascia colors. It is fastened to the soffit by sliding one side under the fascia's L-trim and securing the other side with a color-matched screw. Gemstone says it installs on both wood and aluminum trim, that the system is IP67 waterproof and the cables and lights are UV rated, and that the LEDs have a rated life expectancy of 50,000 hours.

Lights are controlled through the Gemstone Lights HUB app, where each light can be set on its own to create patterns, animations and holiday colors. Gemstone sells only through Authorized Dealers and offers a dealer-verification tool on its website. The residential track page we reviewed did not list warranty terms, so ask the dealer for the written warranty.

Trimlight

Trimlight uses a patented, low-profile channel that runs along the roofline. Trimlight says the channel is sized to look like a two-stage fascia, hides the wires, holds the lights in place and comes in multiple colors. Trimlight also offers three light-spacing options.

The Trimlight Edge app controls colors, patterns, schedules and scenes. Trimlight systems are installed by authorized, factory-trained local dealers; Trimlight reports more than 300 dealerships nationwide and says the product is not DIY. Trimlight advertises a lifetime product warranty on core components. Replacement parts go through your local dealer, and a labor fee may apply once you are outside that dealer's own labor warranty.

How to Compare Them on Your Home

Finished daytime appearance

All three hide the lights in a track or channel, but color match, profile size and how corners are finished make the difference up close. Ask to see a finished home in daylight, not just night photos.

Roofline layout

Rooflines with many corners, gables or mixed soffit and fascia materials need careful planning. Ask how the installer will handle corners, peaks and transitions, and where the power supply and controller will go.

Controls

Each brand uses its own app. If you want schedules, holiday scenes, or voice-assistant or smart-home control, ask the installer to show you the current app and confirm which features work with your home setup.

Installation scope

Every system needs power at the roofline. Whether your home needs a new outlet or circuit depends on the home. Any new electrical work must be handled by an appropriately qualified professional, and permit requirements depend on your town. Make sure the estimate spells out who handles that work.

Written warranty

Read who is covered (usually the property owner), how long full coverage lasts, when coverage switches to parts only, and whether labor is included. Coverage for any specific job depends on the manufacturer's written terms, the install date, who installed it and the manufacturer's own review of a claim.

Service support

Ask who comes back if a light fails, how quickly, and whether there is a labor charge after the first year.
